For The Glory Of God

Magandang gabi sa inyong lahat! My email today is going to focus on a couple of the people that we have been teaching for the past month and a half that I've been here! I sincerely hope that you'll all sense how much the gospel has shaped and changed the lives of my friends Jovan and Ben!

Brother Jovan was one of the first people I met when I was transferred here to Burgos. He's 18 years old and has had a pretty rough life up until about 3 months ago. As we started to go back to him more, he started to open up more and more about his past life. It kind has gotten to the point that I feel like he's truly a brother. On of his trails he told us about is why he us only in 9th grade. When he was younger, his parents were to poor to send him to school. So, while is older brother was at school, Jovan would go with his father to work. They would fish all day. How long this went on, I do not know. I assume it was more than a few years before he finally got to start his education. Unfortunately his friends were not a could example and he got into some bad situations. Earlier this year he moved here to his Grandma's house. I have had the privilege to see the gospel change his perspective on life. His demeanor is completely different in an awesome way.

He's a firey guy too hahah. He told us about one of his teachers commented on him being baptized and becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She said it hasn't true. Brother Jovan was not having any of that. He said "this is what I believe". He is such a stud!! He was baptized last Saturday. There are so many more things I could tell you guys about him but this will have to suffice!

Tatay Ben is an amazing example to me of enduring to the end. Tatay has been meeting the missionaries for about 3 years. He has been "almost baptized" like 4 times we've heard. Then one night about 8 months ago, something horrible happened. He was attacked by his brother and was left almost dead. By the grace of God, he lived and is making a miraculous recovery. This past month, Tatay made his mind up that he wanted to be baptized. Like for real this time. So after a couple of bumps, Tatay did it!!! With the help of family and friends, Tatay Ben has now made his first covenant with God!! He was also baptized last Saturday.

    Spiritual Thought

"In times of distress, we can hold tightly to the hope that things will ‘work together for [our] good’ as we follow the counsel of God’s prophets. This type of hope in God, His goodness, and His power refreshes us with courage during difficult challenges and gives strength to those who feel threatened by enclosing walls of fear, doubt, and despair”

- Elder Uchtdorf

I just want to testify of the truth of what Elder Uchtdorf is saying here. We can trust Heavenly Father and His plan for us. Everything that happens to us as we are living the commandments and keeping our covenants, is indeed for our good. I challenge us all to live the counsel of the prophets. Late or living. Their words do not lose meaning as we recieve new instruction. Quite to the contrary. Line upon line has been the Lords way the whole time. I promise He knows best

Peace

Elder Baker
