Umuwi Na Siya

WARNING: long email, even if you don't wanna read about the week, go read the scriptures of the week at the end.

What's up ya'll?? I hope everyone is doing well! Also what the what is going on with Alberta weather?!? The screen shots from my dad of -40 helps me think of the 95% humidity more like a sweaty hug.

Before we get into the week I'd like to again, ask anyone who's struggling with absolutely anything to send me an email and you'll be in my prayers daily! To anyone who is hesitant, I dont expect you to tell me the reason. If you want to share thats great too! But I testify Heavenly Father knows exactly what you need even if I don't! And He loves you regardless of your struggles and circumstances.

Aight let's get into the week

We started off the week with a huge miracle! Not only for our investigator, but for my personal witness of the promptings of the Holy Ghost. Our first lesson of Tuesday morning was with one of our new investigators from the previous week. Her name is Nanay Mendoza and shes like 65 I think. She is the sweetest soul in the world I'm telling youuuu. She has one arm and she sews floor mats that she sels at the palingke ( market ). Guys She's so so awesome. So we were teaching her the first lesson and it was going really good. I was getting ready to wrap things up when I looked at her and the spirit impressed upon my mind the phrase from Preach My Gospel that basically says " it does not matter which lesson you are teaching, the spirit could direct you to extend an invitation to be baptized at any time.". At first I kind of was like "huh?" I was kinda questioning it hahaha. But then it came again and I knew I had to trust and just do it. After my Comp finished teaching, Nanay asked " wait, so how do I become part of your church?" I was so shocked it took me a minute to fumble around with the invitation but after I extended she immediately said yes!!! We set her date for March 9th! I testify that the Lord can do this work with any missionary. No matter their public speaking ability or confidence in their teaching. All he needs is a willing heart!

Wow that one was a whopper. But I feel as though the experience needs to be fully appreciated.

Wednesday we had a little bit of a slower day with lots of contacting and only 2 lessons. The lessons were really great though. It's the best feeling in the world to get to tell someone how the gospel had blessed my life. Sometimes it's a little discouraging though I'm not gunna lie hahaha. I'll be pouring out my heart to these people and I'll invite them to read the Book of Mormon, then I get the classic response "we're Catholic". I need to remember that these people all have the ability to accept, but also reject the message of the restored gospel. The decision they make does not determine if I succeed or failed. At the end of the day maybe we just planted a seed that manifest in 15 years when other missionaries go to their houses again and the seed will then be ready to grow! In the end God has a perfect plan and it'll all work out!

Thursday we had Zone Conference! It was awesome to see President Cobing and all those Elders from my MTC batch. It sounds like they're all doing very well. The conference was very good. I learned ways that I can be better in finding new people and trusting in the spirit. After that my companion started to feel nauseous so we didn't end up going out unfortunately.

Friday we had 3 or 4 awesome lessons. We also found a new investigator and she's great. She has lots of friends that are members in our ward and a few that are out on missions! We gave her a Book of Mormon and invited her to read Mosiah 3:17-21. A great scripture by the way. But she seemed like she was really open! We'll see thouuuugh.

Saturday was lots of inviting as usual. We hope to see Nanay Mendoza on Sundayyyyy! We also had an dinner appointment at a members house which was so good. The chicken curry was crazyyyy. There was also cake because Elder Abay, my Zone Leader, goes home Sunday afternoon.( I'm actually writing this Sunday morning so he's still here but not for long). that is the theme of my email. "Umuwi na siya" ( He went home ).

Sundayyyyy! Oh yeeeaah. Today has been very good. We had 2 of our Investigators come to Church!!! Nanay and Tatay Devino are the so awesome. When we invited them to church, the only thing they were worried about was what they were going to wear! We told them not to worry a  Unfortunately Justine couldn't but next week he said he will be able to. For lunch, one of the councilors in the stake Presidency took us to McDonald's for lunch, yeah I was confused why we were going to Don's on Sunday too but I just don't ask questions anymore.  After that Elder Abay got all packed up and we said goodbye at the bus station. Sad but also so good to see him move on to the next stage of his life. We then went to a meeting with the Stake Presidency and finished the day off with a dinner appointment at on of our ward grandmas house.

Scripture of the week
3 Nephi 27:29 and Matthew 10:29-31

29 Therefore, ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; for he that asketh, receiveth; and unto him that knocketh, it shall be opened.
- 3 Nephi

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
- Matthew

I testify that these words are true. And our Heavenly hears and answers our prayers. But not always in the way we hoped or in the time frame we expected. But I know that like Matthew says here, each of us       "are of more value than many sparrows". The prayers of His children are heard. And if the desires are righteous, they will be answered.

I think my emails will just be long forever hahaha. There's to much to just shorten it. Anyways ya'll know the pictures are in different emails so if you just wait a little I guess you don't have to read the email hahaha.

Love you all and hope you're reading your scriptures and saying your prayers!!
( you better be cmon now )

Peace

Elder Baker
