December Sa Philippines
What's up yaaa'll?! It is absolutely wild it's already December! I think it makes it a little weirder since we get rain instead of snow. Christmas will fo sho be interesting this year. Anyways about this week! It was a solid week! Lots of awesome stuff! Let's get into it.
(This one's a long one, my bad)
Tuesday was a super solid day! It started off with my daily workout in the morning and then at 9 we walked to one of our farthest areas to find! My companion said there aren't very many houses since it's a super rural area but I said we should go anyways since he's never even gone there hahaha. Once we got there we walked down superrrrr long dirt road until we got to some little houses on the edge of a corn field. There were 5 tatays (older guys) chillin on the porch and they said we could come talk! We shared a little about the church and a few of our basic beliefs and gave them a few pamphlets! We got all of their names which was super awesome! After that we kept going down the road and came to a massive house beside a chicken farm. We ended up talking to the daughter of the owner of the house and figured out that they owned the whole "chicken operation". Pretty wild! I was able to bear my testimony clearly about how important God and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to me. It was so good! After that we headed home and found a few more people along the way. The rest of they day was pretty chill. We had 3 lessons later that night which went well!
Wednesday we finally got our support money! So fortunately I was able to stock up the fridge! The fridge doesnt stay full for long though hahaha. I'm telling you guys, one of my kabahays (Elders I share apartments with) has gotta be takin my chicken when I'm sleeping cause ain't no way I'm eating a kilo of chicken in 2 days. We'll figure it out though. Also for some reason with at least 2 or 3 days before the next support I find myself with no money and like 6 eggs and half a loaf of bread. Let's just say we pray for member meals daily hahaha. Actually it's mostly just me for real. Somehow my comp always has a little stash of bills tucked in his Book Of Mormon in 2 Nephi 9:51. It's a good one hahaha Check it out!
Anyways, sorry about that little rant. As for the rest of Wednesday, just more of the solid stuff. I think we had 2 lessons that evening. Unfortunately some people here are really flaky when it comes to our appointments. We'll show up and their neighbor will tell us " wala sila " which means they aren't home. It sucks but usually we'll meet someone on the street or go home to home contacting which always good.
Thursday we had DCM. We went over our goals for the week and realized we gotta work harder on getting our mga tinuturuan sa simbahan (the people we're teaching to church). I was this close saying when someone says yes to coming, "will you really thoooooo?" But u restrain myself haha. Joking aside though it really does break your heart when no one walks through the door sunday morning. When you do all you can do to help this person along their spiritual journey but we can't hold their had forever. They gotta make the decision. And at the end of the day, people have there agency and some choose not to accept the gospel. It really is so sad. Later that day we were able to find 3 more people and a super nice older guy who we were able to teach a little bit! He spoke English so I was able to bear my testimony in like half tagalog half English. The Spirit was so strong! He teared up a little bit and said he'd read our pamphlet so we'll see what happens!
Friday was pretty chill. I had alot of good things from my personal study!
We taught a few families too which was awesome! Our day was cut short when the APs called us and said they were stuck in front our apartment. We ran back home and found that they'd driven their truck into a trench on the side of the road. The trench was only about 3 feet across and 5 feet deep but they managed to get there front right tire into the ditch and bottom out the truck hahaha
Saturday was good! We proselytited most of the day. ( I actually don't think proselytited is a word but that's what we did hahaha). A solid day for sure!
Sunday was so good! Fast Sundays are always good here! The ward is super awesome at filling the sacrament meeting with amazing testimonies and ofc the sacrament is the highlight! After church we were able to teach one of our nanays (grandmas) we have on date for baptism and holyyy! It was so crazy! I was teaching the Atonement which is like, THE ATONEMENT let's just say I did not want to butcher this one haha. I was prayiiiiiing I wouldn't mess it up and the minute we got into the lesson the words just came!! The Spirit was so strong and I was just teeeaaching! It was so cool guys for real. Usually after I teach, my companions will say " katulad sa sinabi si Elder " which means " similar to what Elder said " So basically he's re-saying what I said hahaha. But this time he just went right onto the next thing!!!! Yessirrrr!! Such a good feeling frrrr! But yeah all glory God for carrying me through.
But yeah! That was my week! Ups and some downs but over all super solid! There's no where else I'd rather be than teaching these wonderful people!
Scripture of the week
Alma 32:38
38 But if ye neglect the tree, and take no thought for its nourishment, behold it will not get any root; and when the heat of the sun cometh and scorcheth it, because it hath no root it withers away, and ye pluck it up and cast it out.
I know that our testimonies need daily nourishment! The adversary will try to lull you into a sense of false security. He will say that you're strong enough to go one day without reading the book of mormon, or to not go to church one week. I promise these pathetic attempts to blind you from your divine potential. As we hold fast to the iron rod and follow the counsel of our prophets and apostles, we will be better fortified to withstand the " fiery darts of the adversary " (1st Nephi 15:24).
Love Ya'll so much! As usual there will be another email with pics!
Peace
Elder Baker
